OPWDD Guidance & Support
Understanding OPWDD
Navigating disability services can be overwhelming, especially when you're unsure where to begin. At The Next Step Together, Inc., we're here to help you understand the process, explore available resources, and connect with the supports that may be available to you and your family.
Who May Be Eligible?
Eligibility for OPWDD services is generally based on a diagnosis of a developmental disability that occurred before age 22. OPWDD makes the final decision on all applications based on clinical records and evaluations. These are examples of diagnoses that may qualify an individual for OPWDD services. Eligibility is determined by the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) based on a comprehensive review of clinical records, evaluations, and all applicable eligibility criteria. The presence of a diagnosis alone does not guarantee eligibility, and OPWDD makes the final determination on all applications.
